A copy of our guidance booklet can be found here

Welcome to our club! The guidance booklet gives you a quick look at what we’re all about — who we are, what we do, and how you can get involved. You’ll also find some handy tips on photography, printing, and how to display your images.

Thinking about entering one of our competitions? We’ve included everything you need to know. Just a heads-up: competitions are open to members only.

Membership costs  £30 per year, plus £2 each week you attend
— and everyone’s welcome, whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience.

Our story began on 14th August 1896, when a group of keen photographers met at Robb’s Hall in Motherwell and formed the Motherwell Photographic Association. Of course, photography has changed a lot since then — from darkrooms to drones and mirrorless cameras — but the passion for capturing the perfect shot is still at the heart of what we do.

This is a short video of the 1st year of the club in 1896.

We meet every Thursday evening at the Holytown Community Centre. Our main season runs from September to April, with meetings from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
Over the summer months, we keep things more relaxed with informal get-togethers — same day, Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm.

The club is fully equipped with professional studio lighting, a computer, and a digital projector, which we use throughout the year for workshops, talks, and image sharing. If you'd like to find out more, feel free to get in touch — or better yet, drop by on a Thursday evening. You’ll be warmly welcomed.
Please note: for insurance reasons, attendees must be over 18 or accompanied by an adult.

The Society is affiliated to the Glasgow and District Photographic Union and The Scottish Photographic Federation. The Society has also received funding from Foundation Scotland.
